If yes, this is the right blog post for you. Let&#8217;s configure email alerts on Mikrotik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My setup &#8211;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mikrotik router model 951G-2HnD<\/li><li>RouterOS v6.48.3 (works on earlier versions as well)<\/li><li>WinBox v3.28<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step &#8211; 1: Create a Log Action<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a log action, go to System &gt; Logging. Once the logging windows open click on &#8220;Actions&#8221; tab and press <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"21\" height=\"22\" class=\"wp-image-55\" style=\"width: 21px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Mikrotik-Plus-Sign.png\" alt=\"Mikrotik-Plus-Sign\">. This will open the &#8220;New Log Action&#8221; window. Enter a name of the new log action, select &#8220;email&#8221; as type and enter the email address where you want to receive the alert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/1-Create-Log-Action.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step &#8211; 2: Create a Log Rule<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a log rule, click on the &#8220;Rules&#8221; tab which is on the left of the &#8220;Actions&#8221; tab. Click on the &#8220;Add&#8221; button, this will open the &#8220;New Log Rule&#8221; window. From &#8220;Topics&#8221; select &#8220;critical&#8221; as your topic and the &#8220;Action&#8221; that we created on the prior step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"248\" height=\"218\" src=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/3-Select-critical-from-topics-and-selection-Action-Email-Notification.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step &#8211; 3: Configure Email Settings<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the final step, setup your Mikrotik  with a working email account. Click on &#8220;Tool&#8221; then &#8220;Email&#8221; to bring out the email settings. Enter the server address, port 465 or if you are using Microsoft Exchange use port 587 and select &#8220;tls only&#8221; in &#8220;Start TLS&#8221;, next enter the email credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/4-Create-Email-Settings-Tools-Email.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>That is it! We are done configuring our router to send out email alerts. Let&#8217;s try to simulate an instance where it would generate critical log errors, resulting in email alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"730\" height=\"60\" src=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/5-Sent-Email-Successfully.png\" alt=\"Simulated Critical Error Log on Mikrotik\" class=\"wp-image-62\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/5-Sent-Email-Successfully.png 730w, https:\/\/bytegeeks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/5-Sent-Email-Successfully-300x25.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As we can see Mikrotik router has sent out an email alert. We should see an email containing the error details in the subject of the email. These emails does not contain any information on the body of the email.
